Vacation: Memphis, Tennessee
January 25, 2007 - January 28, 2007
Day Three – January 27, 2007
10:00 a.m. - The word of the day is underhydrated. I haven't read what I wrote in this journal last night, but did I mention that Hollywood Raiford's Disco only sold 40 oz's and they have a two drink minimum? That was a fun time. Lady Awesome and I are trying to figure out if that place really existed or if the memory was from a dream. -- I accidentally left a bunch of pen marks on the sheets last night. I hope the hotel doesn't charge us for that.
2:48 p.m. - We met John for breakfast at Blue Plate Cafe. I ordered cheese-scrambled eggs, a biscuit, and pancakes for only $4.50. Good job, Memphis, and your nice price. From there we went to the National Civil Rights Museum. It was great. My favorite parts were sitting on the Rosa Parks bus and seeing Martin Luther King, Jr.'s hotel room where he was assassinated. Some famous basketball players walked beside us during the tour, with a load of photographers and an interviewer. I don't know who they were because I don't know dick about sports, so let's just say they were ones who get in trouble for womanizing. Our feet hurt and I'm sleepy. My hangover is almost over, so I'm looking forward to an afternoon nap.
4:35 p.m. - I'm awake and trying to find the dog that pooped in my mouth. Bleh. I need to brush my teeth big time. Speaking of stink. Lady Awesome had a hilarious fart that was so long and audible that she dubbed it "the extended remix." She just left to go back to her social psychology conference. Meanwhile, I'm staying in the room to eat junk food and watch free HBO. It's overcast outside, which may be why I haven't taken one picture yet today. It's a lazy day.
11:09 p.m. - Lady Awesome and I had a pre-dinner snack at a sushi restaurant. It was really good. Then her advisor took us out to dinner-dinner at Huey's. Three years ago he picked a similarly named establishment (Chuy's) at SPSP in Austin. Next year I anticipate that we will be eating at a restaurant called Tchuey's. On the way to Huey's, we passed Sun Studios. Elvis really had a thing for tiny buildings. This one had a lot of neon lights, and the moment has passed. I'm over it now. -- I forgot to smoke my cigar for the third day in a row.
Day Four – January 28, 2007
7:45 a.m. - Lady Awesome is at the front desk of our hotel checking out. So are a bunch of Asian people. They probably miss their dogs, too. -- I'll miss Memphis. Not the aggressive panhandlers or the desolation and despair of downtown. But the king-sized bed.
